The City of Colorado Springs is excited to launch a community-wide campaign to celebrate and honor the Class of 2020, who have lost out on many rite of passage ceremonies and activities in their final semester due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our goal is to turn on the lights in as many buildings, businesses and homes across our region for one hour on May 20, 2020 beginning at 8:20 p.m. (2020 military time) to give a symbolic yet visible display of support for our local graduating seniors, and to let them know the entire city is cheering them on to the finish line.
- If you are a business, consider lighting your signage or exterior lighting
- If you have large buildings or facilities, consider turning the lights on in several rooms or throughout unique and visible parts of your campus
- If you have heavy equipment like cranes, trucks or busses, consider turning on their headlights or visible exterior lights
- If you have a house or apartment, consider turning on your porchlight, spotlight, or floodlights, or even flashlights, lanterns, or colored lights.
Residents, businesses and organizations are then encouraged to post a photo or video of their unique and visible light source on social media on May 20 with a congratulatory message for graduates using the hashtag #BeTheLightCOS so they can follow along and see the support from our community.
