City to observe Independence Day Thursday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –  All City of Colorado Springs administrative and elected administrative offices and agencies will be CLOSED Thursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day, including:

  • Administrative offices for Mountain Metropolitan Transit
  • City Auditorium
  • City Clerk
  • City Hall
  • Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum
  • Colorado Springs Tennis Center
  • Deerfield Hills Community Center
  • Hillside Community Center – closed July 1-5 for facility maintenance
  • Meadows Park Community Center
  • Municipal Court
  • Otis Park Community Center
  • Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Administrative Building
  • Prospect Lake Beach
  • Prospect Lake Boating – closed to motorized and non-motorized watercraft
  • Sales Tax Office
  • Sertich Ice Center
  • Sports Office and Therapeutic Recreation Programs at Memorial Park


The following facilities will remain open July 4:

  • City golf courses
  • Garden of the Gods Park
  • Helen Hunt Visitors Center
  • Julie Penrose Fountain in America the Beautiful Park
  • Memorial Park (see below)
  • Park and Visitor’s HUB
  • Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain (weather permitting)
  • Rockledge Ranch Historic Site (see below)
  • Starsmore Center
  • Uncle Wilber Fountain in Acacia Park

Vehicular access restrictions planned for park roads

Due to severe overcrowding, to maintain access for emergency responders and protect our natural resources, the following park roads will be closed to vehicular access. Please do not block roadways, driveways or gate access:

  • Gold Camp Road will be closed to vehicles 11 p.m. Wednesday through 5 a.m. Friday
  • Roads in Palmer Park will be closed to vehicles 11 p.m. Wednesday through 5 a.m. Friday

As a reminder, fireworks are illegal within Colorado Springs city limits. Residents are encouraged to attend City of Colorado Springs-sponsored Fourth of July activities, including:

Summer Symphony (July 4): Starting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Memorial Park will host the annual Summer Symphony. Listen to the Colorado Springs Philharmonic beginning at 7:30 p.m. and finish the evening with a permitted fireworks display at dusk. For more details, visit

The following roads closures will take place Thursday due to the event:

3-10 p.m.

  • Hancock Avenue, between Pikes Peak Avenue and Costilla Street
  • Prospect Lake Drive

4-10 p.m.

  • Pikes Peak Avenue, between Hancock Avenue and Union Boulevard
  • N. Sheridan, N. Logan, N. Farragut, and N. Meade Avenues, between Pikes Peak Avenue and Kiowa Street
  • Union Boulevard, between Pikes Peak Avenue and Eastlake Boulevard
  • Cimarron Street, Moreno Avenue, Rio Grande Street and Las Animas Street, between Hancock Avenue and Prospect Lake Drive
  • S. Sheridan, S. Foote, S. Logan and S. Meade Avenues, between Fountain Boulevard and Prospect Lake Drive
  • Internal park roads (Farragut Avenue, Sports Drive, and Memorial Drive)

Only vehicles presenting a valid disabled parking placard or license plate will be permitted to park inside of Memorial Park. These handicap parking spaces can be accessed at the intersection of Union Boulevard and Pikes Peak Avenue.

Family Fourth at Rock Ledge Ranch (July 4): From 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site will host a variety of activities, including:

  • Music by the Fountain Creek Brass Band and reenactments from notable historical figures such as Jackson Palmer and Katherine Lee Bates
  • A visit to the Revolutionary War encampment
  • A performance from the Seven Falls Indian Dancers
  • Carnival games, rope making, candy scramble and wagon rides
  • Various interpreters from the American Indian Area, Galloway Homestead, Rock Ledge House & Chambers Farm, Orchard House Estate, Blacksmith Shop, and the Garden & General Store

Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors (55+), and $4 for children (6-17). Children ages 5 and under are free. There will be discounts available for active duty military with an ID.
