Dublin Widening Project

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

This PPRTA-2 “A List” project will widen Dublin Boulevard west of Powers Boulevard for approximately half a mile, from three lanes wide to five lanes wide. The new configuration will have two lanes of through-traffic in each direction, with a center turn lane. It will tie into existing Dublin Boulevard lanes to the east and west.

Current Activity:

  • The Dublin Widening project will see significant nighttime traffic impacts during the week of Sept. 23.

  • Nightly closures Sept. 23-26: Dublin Boulevard will be closed from Templeton Gap Road west to Oakwood Boulevard from 7 p.m. Sunday through 5 a.m. Monday in the first of four consecutive nightly closures. The road will close each night at 7 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning.  The last closure will begin on Wednesday evening and conclude Thursday morning. The closures are necessary to lay new pavement on Dublin Boulevard.
    • During the closures, vehicles will be detoured to Austin Bluffs Parkway, then back to Dublin Boulevard.  Detour signs will be posted in the vicinity.
    • Night  work will require occasional lane closures on Dublin Boulevard and Templeton Gap Road at the intersection of Dublin Boulevard.  Flaggers will be on hand to guide traffic.
  • In addition to the full closures on Dublin Boulevard, on Monday night and Tuesday night (7 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night):
  • The intersection of Powers Boulevard and Dublin Boulevard will be reduced to one lane in all four directions.
  • Traffic signals at the intersection will be out while crews install new signals.  Uniformed police will be present to provide traffic control during this work.

The project is on track to finish in October 2018.

Timeline:

April-October 2018. If you wish to receive regular emails on construction progress and impacts, email george@amanwhosees.com.

  • May-August 2018:  One lane of Dublin traffic open each direction. Westbound lanes shifted to the south while new lanes are built on the north side of roadway. During this phase, access between Dublin Boulevard and the Oakwood Village neighborhood and Dublin Terrace townhomes is closed.  Oakwood Village residents will use Oakwood Boulevard.  Dublin Terrace will access the townhomes via Source Way.
  • August through project completion: One lane open in each direction of Dublin Boulevard, plus turn lanes, with work shifting between the middle of the roadway to the outside of the roadway to complete the paving/striping and sidewalk/landscaping.
  • All construction activities are weather and resource-dependent.

Key Elements:

  • The project eliminates a bottleneck in Dublin Boulevard which is currently a four-lane road west of the project and a six-lane road east of the project.  Widening this two-lane section will significantly improve traffic flow and safety in the area.
  • The April 30-May 4 full closure is necessary to install two concrete storm sewer pipes across Dublin Boulevard.
  • A traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Dublin Boulevard and Templeton Gap Road/Darby Drive.
  • Improvements will be made at Dublin Boulevard and Powers Boulevard to carry additional lanes across Powers Boulevard and open the remaining planned double left turns.
  • All business and residential access will be maintained throughout the project.

Budget:

Construction cost is $1.1 million. The project is on the A List of capital projects funded by the voter-approved PPRTA-2.
