Colorado Springs, CO – On August 13, 2018, at approximately 2:50 p.m., the Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 1623 South Nevada, the Rodeway Inn. Fire companies arrived in under five minutes from dispatch to a two-story, wood-framed, motel with gray laminar smoke showing from a lower level room on front side of the motel. Firefighters were able to investigate the room and pull a burning mattress and box spring outside for extinguishment. Firefighters focused on ventilating the structure and search of adjacent units. The fire was contained to the mattress, and no extension noted during overhaul operations. There were no injuries to citizens or firefighters during this event.
Approximately 30 firefighters dispatched to the working fire due to its high life potential. CSFD fire inspectors were called out to the scene, and after a thorough investigation, the inspectors determined the fire to be accidental and attributed to misuse of a mobile charging device.
The CSFD wants to remind all of our citizens that using the appropriate charging devices for the battery in your device is the best way to avoid mobile device charging fires. Please review your owners manual which, in most cases, may be found online for your review.

· Read reviews of the charger you are buying
· Never cover any heat sources, such as chargers and phones, as heat build-up may lead to fire to adjacent combustibles
