Cooking is the number one cause of home fires and home injuries, according to the National Fire Protection Association.
Forgetting you are cooking is the top reason for kitchen fires.
- Set a timer or alarm to remind you that there is something cooking.
- Never put water on a grease fire. Cover the pan with a lid and turn off the stove.
- If there is a fire in your oven, turn off the heat and keep the door closed.
- Keep anything that can catch fire such as curtains, oven mitts, wooden utensils, and food packaging away from your stovetop.
