Mobility Concerns and Accommodations

Access to the park is being provided for all, including designated parking for persons with disabilities.  All park visitors will have access to accessible routes into and throughout the park.

A drop-off zone will be designated next to the park’s main entrance sign northwest of the intersection of 30th Street and Gateway Road. Visitors may then immediately access Gateway Road from the drop-off location and enter the park via Gateway Road.

The City permits the use of other power-driven mobility devices (OPDMD) within the park. View the City’s OPDMD policy. The City will also consider any other reasonable accommodation requests.

Emergency Access

All entrances will be closed with staff at each location should there be a need to unlock the gate for emergency access during the event.

What is the purpose of this event?

This special event was conceptualized from a transportation study designed to enhance the visitor experience and protect the natural elements of Garden of the Gods Park.  The parks department estimates that 5.8 million people visited Garden of the Gods Park in 2017.

“Following the garden’s first Motorless Morning event this spring, we received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community,” said Kim King, parks administration manager. “That first event was a great way for us to test this concept, which we’re now extending by two hours so visitors have more time post-sunrise to experience the park in this unique way. We are interested to see if this event is received as well in the fall as it was in the spring and will continue to gather data on how people are using the park during the event. If it goes well, we will initiate a public process to determine if similar events will be held in 2019.”
