The Colorado Springs Airport (COS) reported high summer traffic for the month of June. The airport saw 206,648 total passengers over the month, 107,821 of those passengers enplaning at COS, representing a 12.7 percent increase in enplanements from the same time last year. June enplanements at COS represent the highest June in over twenty years.

Average load factor at COS in June was 86.5 percent, an increase of 6.5 percentage points year-over-year, driving a surge in traffic at the airport, on top of seat growth.

The increase seen in June is attributable to an increase in seats in the market due to two new airlines and increased frequencies and seats by existing carriers. Avelo Airlines and Sun Country Airlines joined COS over the summer and both Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines added new routes to their lineup.

In June, COS offered new service to Atlanta (ATL) (Delta), Los Angeles/Hollywood-Burbank (BUR) (Avelo), Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) (Delta and Sun Country), with new service to Long Beach (LGB) (Southwest) having launched in July. For summer (June-August) 2023, COS seats are up 8 percent year-over- year.

Currently, COS is modifying the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint queuing area to accommodate the growth in traffic and enhance the passenger experience. Travelers are reminded to arrive at least 90 minutes before their flight is scheduled depart.
