Mountain Metropolitan Transit (MMT) has hired DS Consultants from Lakewood, CO to conduct illicit drug residue testing at the Downtown Terminal, located on the corner of Nevada Avenue and Kiowa Street.
Testing will begin on Saturday, April 8, and will start with preliminary level assessment of the terminal to include the HVAC system. MMT expects results by the end of next week. If the testing does come back positive for contamination, MMT will start working on plans for remediation.
MMT decided testing was needed after security guard became ill due to possible drug exposure after a routine bathroom inspection on March 30. The restrooms were closed, and a planned deep cleaning was done.
Bathrooms will remain closed until testing results are back and the facility is deemed safe.
MMT is committed to offer a safe environment for drivers, staff, and passengers. In November of last year, MMT increased security presence at the Downtown Terminal, especially around the restrooms, and has recently expanded its janitorial service. Security guards monitor the terminal for loitering and inappropriate behavior.
