On April 1, 2025, a General Municipal Election will be held to elect each of the six district City Council positions for Colorado Springs. Residents interested in running for a council position may pick up a candidate filing packets in the City Clerk’s Office (30 South Nevada Avenue, Sute 101), Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Dec. 31, 2024 and Jan. 21, 2025. The candidate filing period ends at 5 p.m. on January 21.
The City Clerk will also conduct a candidate training on Thursday, Jan. 2 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the City Administration Building at 30 S. Nevada Ave, Room 102. The training will include general election information along with guidelines regarding candidate filing and campaign finance law. The candidate training session will be recorded and posted to the website.
“This year, the six city council district boundaries were all redrawn to accommodate the population growth across the city,” said City Clerk Sarah B. Johnson. “It is important for each potential candidate to verify they live in the district they choose to run in prior to filing to run.”

To be eligible to run for a City Council District Office residents:
- Must be a citizen of the United States of America
- Must be 25 years of age or older on the date of the election
- Must be a registered elector of the City of Colorado Springs
- Must have resided in the City of Colorado Springs city boundary for one-year immediately preceding the election date
- Must reside in the City Council District boundary for which your residential address is located and if elected, and must maintain a residence within the district boundary for the entire four-year term of office
