Prospect Lake Closure

Prospect Lake has been closed to water contact since Aug. 9 due to high levels of microcystin toxin found in the water, which are produced from blue-green algae blooms and are harmful to humans and pets. More than 70 signs have been posted around the lake to inform visitors of the closure. The only effect this closure has on the event is that paddle board yoga and standup paddle board rentals will be relocated. Dragonfly Paddle Yoga will host standup paddle board yoga lessons at Monument Lake on Saturday and Quail Lake on Sunday.

“One of the most fun Labor Day traditions in Colorado Springs is the Labor Day Liftoff in Memorial Park,” said Parks’ director Karen Palus. “The incredible views of Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain and Prospect Lake combine to provide the perfect backdrop for this annual event, and this year is no exception. However, an important reminder to attendees that Prospect Lake is closed to water contact due to a blue-green algae bloom that is producing a toxin that is harmful to humans and pets. To ensure a safe experience, we urge all visitors to heed the warning signs posted around the lake.”
