COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain will close one hour early on June 25-28 due to critical construction deliveries for the new Pikes Peak Summit Complex. The deliveries include 60 loads of precast panels on large semi-trailer trucks which will utilize both lanes when navigating the narrow switchbacks.
“These early closures are to ensure the safety of all guests, and we greatly appreciate the patience and flexibility of our visitors during this period of heavy construction on the new Pikes Peak Summit Complex,” said Jack Glavan, manager of Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain. “We encourage anyone planning a visit on these delivery days to plan ahead and come see us early in the day to maximize your experience on the mountain.”
June 25, 26, 27, 28 (early closures due to construction deliveries):
- Uphill gates close: 5 p.m.
- Pikes Peak summit closes: 6 p.m.
- Downhill gates close: 7 p.m.
The Summit Complex, co-funded by Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain and private donations, will deliver a vastly upgraded visitor experience to better accommodate the record number of visitors who are enjoying Pikes Peak each year. Upgrades include an interactive and interpretive education area focused on the history, significance and geology of Pikes Peak; an improved kitchen and expanded dining facilities; and better retail space.
In addition, the following schedule adjustments will be made at Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain due to the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) in June. This information is posted at www.pikespeakcolorado.com.
June 8, 9, 14, 15, 16 (PPIHC tire testing): Uphill traffic to the summit will be held until 8:30 a.m. There will still be access to the Catamount Reservoirs starting at 7:30 a.m.
June 25, 26, 27, 28 (PPIHC race week): Uphill traffic to the summit will be held until 9 a.m. There will still be access to the Catamount Reservoirs starting at 7:30 a.m.
