The Pikes Peak Highway entrance is conveniently located just 15 minutes west of Colorado Springs on Highway 24 (see map). Plan for your roundtrip journey to the summit to take 2-3 hours.

Open year round - weather permitting

Pikes Peak - America's Mountain is open year round - weather permitting. Conditions change frequently, it is recommended to call our pre-recorded information line. The staff updates the info approximately 15 minutes prior to opening and then as conditions change throughout the day.

Scenic Pikes Peak Highway

The safe and scenic Pikes Peak Highway provides you the opportunity to enjoy 19 miles of mountain terrain, with frequent pull-offs for you to get out, stretch your legs, and take photos, or enjoy one of our many picnic areas and hiking trails. You’ll be treated to breathtaking views, four different Colorado life zones and unique animal sightings, like the Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, yellow-bellied marmots and (rumored) Big Foot.

Learn about the mountain at one of our "Meet the Ranger" interpretive programs and hear about the history, myths, flora and fauna of Pikes Peak - America's Mountain. And take in breathtaking views at every stop.

Summit of Pikes Peak

From the summit’s various viewing areas, you’ll absolutely want to snap photos of Pikes Peak’s incredible scenery. On the clearest days, you can see five states (New Mexico, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming and Oklahoma) and even the curvature of the earth fading into the distance.

The state-of-the-art Pikes Peak Summit Visitor Center (altitude: 14,115 feet) opened in June 2021, providing people of all ages and abilities an exciting new experience on the summit of Pikes Peak. The facility provides improved accessibility throughout the entire summit, engaging interpretive exhibits that share the history of the mountain, a revamped gift shop, and indoor and outdoor dining areas where visitors can enjoy a world-famous Pikes Peak donut and other delicious treats while taking in the expansive views. The building and outdoor walkways were designed to create a seamless, immersive experience. From arrival at the summit and through all steps, visitors are enveloped in the natural forms of America’s Mountain.
