PERF Study Results

TIn response to a recommendation from the 2022 Transparency Matters study, in 2023 the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) selected the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) to conduct an extensive study of CSPD’s training in defensive tactics, de-escalation of police-citizen encounters, procedural justice, and response to persons in crisis.

The Colorado Springs Police Department Community Relations Unit has developed a new program called “PLAY COS,” which is aimed at creating more opportunities for positive interactions between officers and community members.

Public Safety Technology

The Colorado Springs Police Department utilizes numerous types of technology to increase public safety throughout the City of Colorado Springs. These types of technology serve three purposes: 

  • Aid in ongoing calls for service and investigations
  • Assist in enforcement and reporting crimes
  • Enhance operational efficiencies

All criminal justice records are released in accordance with the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act (CCJRA). As such, not all records may be available for release or may have information redacted (blacked out) prior to release. Electronic records are normally released in PDF format.
