On March 12, 2020, around 10:14 A.M., officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to an apartment complex in the 3900 block of Harmony Drive after witnesses reported seeing a young child crying with blood on their face through an apartment window.
When officers arrived on scene, they entered the apartment and located a four-year-old male victim who had sustained a head wound. Personnel from the Colorado Springs Fire Department and AMR treated the young boy for what appeared to be a self-inflicted superficial gunshot wound before he was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
While on scene, a three-year-old female, later identified as the boy’s sister, was also found behind a locked door inside the apartment. Nobody else was present in the apartment besides the two children. The young girl was also transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution. Detectives from the CSPD’s Crimes Against Children responded to assist in the investigation.
Upon the initial investigation, detectives found multiple unsecured firearms throughout the apartment and a bullet hole in the wall where the boy was seen through the window. Detectives also learned that the children’s mother was at a local hospital for an unrelated procedure when the children’s stepfather left them unattended in the apartment while he drove to the hospital. When both parents arrived on scene, officers identified the stepfather as 22-year-old Christopher Little.
Little was later arrested for both felony child abuse and misdemeanor child abuse. He was transported and booked into the CJC.
This is still an active and on-going investigation. Further details will be released in the future as appropriate. Please follow Twitter for a mugshot.
