The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is pleased to announce the CSPD Cadet Program will hold a formal swearing-in ceremony in which the cadets will be issued cadet badges and administered the Cadet Oath by Chief Carey on January 16, 2019, 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm, at the Police Operation Center Community Room located at 705 South Nevada Avenue.
The CSPD Cadet Program is for young men and women, ages 14-20, with an interest in law enforcement, community service, and leadership development. This program allows young teens who live in or near the City of Colorado Springs to become informed and involved in law enforcement, while actively becoming part of their community. The program provides weekly training in a variety of realistic situations which include evidence collection, interview techniques, pedestrian contacts, criminal law, and many other topics designed to expose the cadets to a day in the life of a law enforcement officer. Cadets over the age of 16 may participate in the CSPD Ride-Along Program and will learn life-long leadership skills while promoting within the program, together with receiving mentorship from CSPD officers and local leaders. Cadets participate in a wide range of volunteer community service activities within the CSPD and the community and have the opportunity to compete at regional and national levels.
Over the past four years, cadets previously were not issued a badge to symbolize their commitment to service. The badge serves as a reminder of a cadet’s duty to uphold the law and be leaders in our community, in and out of uniform.
This ceremony is significant to our cadets as they will recite the Cadet Oath and their parents will pin a badge onto their uniform. Please join us in celebrating their courage in honoring their commitment to serve our community.
