UPDATE: On July 4, 2019, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed an autopsy for the victim involved in the assault that took place in the 200 block of University Drive on July 3, 2019. The victim has been identified as 31-year-old David Hagen of Colorado Springs. Mr. Hagen’s death is the 11th homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2019. At this time last year, the city had 15 homicides. This continues to be an active and open investigation.
On July 3, 2019, at approximately 5:28PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a call of an assault in progress at an address in the 200 block of University Drive. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a life threatening wound to his upper body, believed to have been caused by an edged weapon. The male was transported to a local medical facility where he succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives from the Violent Crimes Homicide/Assault Unit responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. It is believed that officers have identified and contacted all parties involved in this incident and there is no apparent danger to the public.
While the El Paso County Coroner will conduct an examination to make the final determination of the cause and manner of death, this case is being actively investigated as a homicide.
