On Monday, April 8, 2019 at approximately 7:27 AM, the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a two vehicle crash at the intersection of E. Fillmore St. and N. Cascade Ave.

When officers arrived on scene, they found one of the vehicles involved, an older model recreational vehicle or RV, had fled the scene prior to their arrival.  The other vehicle involved, a motorcycle, remained and the driver had suffered serious injuries.  The motorcyclist was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of those injuries.  The Major Crash Team responded to assume responsibility for the investigation.

Detectives determined that the RV was traveling westbound on E. Fillmore St. when it attempted to make a left turn to travel southbound on N. Cascade Ave.  In doing so, it turned in front of the eastbound motorcycle, causing the crash.  The RV then fled but was recovered several blocks from the scene of the crash.  The driver was not with the RV at the time of recovery but he was later identified as 39 year old Brian A. Abeyta of Colorado Springs.

On May 14, 2019, Mr. Abeyta was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center for leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injuries, a Class 4 felony; He was also arrested for duty to report accidents, a class two misdemeanor traffic offense.  This investigation is continuing.
