Homicide Investigation: 1500 block of West Pikes Peak Ave

On Monday, March 9, 2020, at approximately 3:00 P.M., Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) patrol officers were dispatched to a residence located in the 1500 Block of W. Pikes Peak Avenue in regards to a reported stabbing. Upon the officers’ arrival, they discovered an adult female who was suffering from several life-threatening injuries. The female was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Due to the nature of the injuries, detectives from CSPD’s Homicide/Assault Unit responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation.

Detectives conducted multiple interviews and ultimately obtained a warrant for the arrest of 24-year-old Ronald Rhoades for the charge of Attempted Murder in the second degree. Detectives determined that Rhoades was involved in a relationship with the victim and this incident was an act of domestic violence. The arrest warrant for Rhoades was obtained on the same day of the incident. Rhoades was taken into custody on Thursday, March 12th at approximately 4:57 P.M. by CSPD patrol officers with the assistance of the K-9 unit. Rhoades was transported and booked into the El Paso County Jail where he remains in custody. Later on March 12th, Homicide/Assault Unit detectives were advised that the victim succumbed to her injuries and died at the hospital.

On Friday, March 13, 2020, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the adult female. The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Elizabeth Reuse of Colorado Springs. Ms. Reuse’s death is the 12th homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2020. The CSPD investigated three homicides at this time last year.
