Shooting investigation 100 block Brookside Street

Update

On September 13, 2019, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed an autopsy of the victim involved in the September 9, 2019, shooting that occurred in the 100 block of East Brookside Street. The victim has been identified as 18-year-old James Hardy of Colorado Springs. Mr. Hardy’s death is the 17th homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2019. At this time last year, the city had 24 homicides. This case is actively being investigated by detectives from the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Homicide/Assault Unit.

UPDATE

On September 9, 2019, at approximately 12:54 A.M., Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress at the Everyday Convenience Store located at 1502 South Tejon Street.  At approximately 1:32 A.M., while officers were processing the scene for evidence, they heard gunshots east of their location.

Officers checked the area of the shots fired and discovered an adult male lying in a field located in 100 block of East Brookside Street. Officers called for medical attention and rendered aid to the male who appeared to be suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Medical personnel arrived on scene and transported him to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives from CSPD’s Homicide/Assault Unit responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation. While the El Paso County Coroner conducts an examination to make the final determination of the cause and manner of death, this case is being investigated as a homicide and continues to be an active investigation. At this time, detectives believe that the burglary of the Everyday Convenience store is not related to the shooting.

On September 9, 2019, at approximately 12:54 Am, Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department were dispatched to a burglary of a business in the area of Brookside Street and Tejon Street. K-9 officers responded to assist with the investigation. While processing the burglary scene, officers heard shots fired to the east of their location.

Officers searched the area of the shots fired and located an adult male laying in a field, in the 100 block of Brookside Street. This unidentified male, who was suffering from at least one gunshot wound, was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.
