Shooting Investigation 1100 Block of Mazatlan Cir

Update: On Sunday, February 9, 2020, officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to the 1100 block of Mazatlan Circle for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased adult male with an apparent gunshot wound. Detectives from CSPD’s Homicide/Assault Unit responded and initiated a homicide investigation. While detectives and officers were at the scene of the shooting, CSPD’s Communication Center received a report of a deceased adult male located on Ellston Street, under the I-25 overpass. That report was received at approximately 7:48 P.M. CSPD officers responded to Ellston Street and conducted the preliminary investigation which led to the response of a different team of Homicide/Assault Unit detectives.  Based on the independent death investigations conducted by the responding detectives, there is evidence to support that the investigations are related.

On Tuesday, February 10, 2020, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsies of the deceased adult males. The victim located on Mazatlan Circle has been identified as 23-year-old Kashaun Antonio of Colorado Springs. The victim located on Ellston Street has been identified as 21-year-old Jamil A. Hopper of Colorado Springs. The investigation is active and no further details will be released at this time.

This will be the fourth and fifth homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2020. The CSPD investigated two homicides at this time last year.

On February 9, 2020, at approximately 6:38 P.M., officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to the 1100 block of Mazatlan Circle for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased adult male with an apparent gunshot wound.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Violent Crimes Section responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for this investigation. While the Coroner’s Office will make the official cause and manner of death determination, this death is being investigated as a homicide and continues to be an active investigation.
