In April 2020, the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Metro Vice Unit initiated an investigation into a male suspect. The suspect was soliciting sexual intercourse and sexually explicit photographs online from someone he believed was a 16-year-old female. In reality, Mr. Espinoza had contacted an undercover police officer. Through additional investigation, detectives obtained information the male was located in Rocky Ford, Colorado.
On May 13, 2020, Metro Vice Unit detectives traveled to Rocky Ford in an attempt to identify and arrest the male suspect. The male went to a local Rocky Ford business believing he was meeting the underage female to have sex. When he was instead met by police, the male fled from officers on foot and fell into a canal. The male was taken into custody without further incident, and he was subsequently identified as 26-year-old Randy Espinoza of Rocky Ford. Mr. Espinoza was arrested for the felony offenses of Soliciting for Child Prostitution and Attempted Sexual Exploitation of a Child. Assistance was provided by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Rocky Ford Police Department (RFPD).
Through their investigation, Metro Vice Unit detectives believe Mr. Espinoza solicited sexually explicit photographs from several females under the age of 18. Detectives wish to identify these females and ask that any person with information on Mr. Espinoza, or this investigation, contact the Metro Vice Unit at #719-444-7512. Persons wishing to remain anonymous may contact Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers at #719-634-STOP.
The investigation and arrest of Mr. Espinoza would not have been possible without the assistance of CBI, the Rocky Ford Police Department, and the Otero County Sheriff’s Office.
