On Saturday, July 13, 2019, at approximately 12:07 AM, the Colorado Springs Police Department was informed of an automobile versus pedestrian crash at the intersection of North Academy Boulevard and North Carefree Circle. It was also reported that the suspect vehicle left the scene.
Upon arrival of the officers, it was discovered the pedestrian suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. The pedestrian was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of those injuries.
The Major Crash Team responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for this investigation. It was determined the pedestrian was attempting to cross North Academy Boulevard eastbound at North Carefree Circle when they were struck by a southbound vehicle, which was traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle continued southbound after the crash.
Evidence on scene, coupled with eyewitness accounts, indicates the vehicle is a red or orange 2004-2011 Ford Focus. This vehicle should have a broken right front headlight, damage to the passenger side, and a damaged passenger side mirror.
