The motorcycle driver involved in the traffic crash that occurred on July 22, 2019, in the 1400 block of North Academy Boulevard, has been identified at 39-year-old Ehren Schultze of Colorado Springs. Preliminary information suggests Mr. Schultze was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The investigation is still ongoing.
On Monday, July 22, 2019, at approximately 9:32 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a single vehicle crash in the 1400 block of North Academy Boulevard. Officers responded to the area and located the driver of the vehicle, deceased on scene. The Major Crash Team responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation.
Preliminary information indicates that a single motorcycle was travelling northbound on Academy Boulevard and failed to negotiate the curve north of East San Miguel St, striking the left hand curb and ejecting the adult male driver, who succumbed to his injuries on scene. It is unknown at this time if the driver was wearing a helmet. Early indications are that speed may have been a factor in this crash.
This is the 25th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2019, the 6th involving a motorcycle; there were 26 traffic fatalities this time last year.
