On Saturday, August 24, 2019, at approximately 2:22 A.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) was notified of an auto versus pedestrian crash in the 2500 block of West Colorado Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located the male pedestrian with serious bodily injuries. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment of his life-threatening injuries. The driver involved also remained on scene. The CSPD Major Crash Team responded and assumed responsibility for the scene.

Upon preliminary examination, it appears the pedestrian did not use the crosswalk and stepped into the westbound lane of West Colorado Avenue when he was struck by the vehicle. Both directions of West Colorado Avenue between 25th Street and 26th Street were closed during the investigation.

On Wednesday, August 28, 2019, the pedestrian, who has been identified as 54-year-old John Park, died from his injuries. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office attempted to notify Mr. Park’s next of kin; however, no family members could be located. Please see the below photo of Mr. Park, if you recognize him, or know the whereabouts of his family, please contact the CSPD at (719) 444-7000.

Mr. Park is the 30th traffic related fatality and the sixth pedestrian killed in Colorado Springs in 2019. At this time last year, there were 34 traffic fatalities in the city.
