On January 3, 2020, at approximately 04:19AM, Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) were dispatched to the area of Corinth Drive and Templeton Gap Road in reference to a single vehicle crash.  Upon arrival officers located the crash and requested medical attention for the adult male driver, later identified as 34-year-old James Cleghorn of Colorado Springs. Medical personnel responded and attempted aid, however Cleghorn was pronounced deceased on scene. The Major Crash Team responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was driving his Chevy Malibu eastbound on Templeton Gap Road when he struck the south curb line near the intersection with Corinth Drive.  The vehicle traveled across east and westbound lanes of traffic, striking a tree on the north side of Templeton Gap Road.  It is unknown at this time if excessive speed or alcohol was a factor in the crash.

This is the first traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year.  At this time last year, there had also been one traffic fatality in the city. Anyone with information or who is a witness to this traffic crash is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at (719) 444-7000;
