On March 12, 2019, at approximately 2:00 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a two-car crash beneath the overpass at the intersection of North Union Boulevard and Austin Bluffs Parkway. Responding officers determined that a Dodge van, driven by 91-year-old Alberta Lou Davis of Colorado Springs, was traveling northbound on North Union Boulevard when it crossed into the eastbound turn lane of southbound Union Boulevard. The van struck a Ford pickup truck that was waiting to turn left. The driver of the truck was uninjured; however, Mrs. Davis was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of her injuries. Excessive speed, alcohol, and drugs are not considered factors in this case.

On March 17, 2019, Mrs. Davis succumbed to the injuries she suffered in this crash. She is the eighth traffic-related fatality in Colorado Springs this year. There were also eight traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs at this time last year.
