On Friday, February 15, 2019 at 4:16PM officers from the CSPD Gold Hill Patrol Division were dispatched to the area of Ridge Road and West Pikes Peak Avenue to investigate a traffic crash. Upon arrival officers determined the driver of a late model Nissan Rogue drove southbound through the barricades indicating Ridge Road was closed. The vehicle crashed into a construction crane which was parked within the construction site. Construction workers had cleared from the construction site approximately 5 minutes prior to the crash. The three occupants of the vehicle were all transported to area hospitals with serious injuries.
On February 16, 2019, at approximately 3:58 AM, the back seat passenger in this vehicle died from injuries sustained in the crash. The deceased was identified as 37 year old Joseph D. Quinones of Lakewood, Colorado. Mr. Quinones was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The Major Crash Team responded and is continuing the investigation. No charges have been filed in this case, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor at this time.
Mr. Quinones is the sixth traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2019. At this time last year, there were also six traffic fatalities.
