On August 31, 2018, at 2:21 AM, officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to the 200 block of East Las Vegas Street on the report of a male subject lying in a yard. Responding officers found a non-responsive adult male, subsequently identified as 54 year old Colorado Springs resident Randol F. Lillie, deceased due to traumatic injuries. CSPD’s Violent Crimes Section responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for this investigation. Mr. Lillie’s death was the 22nd homicide investigated by the Colorado Springs Police Department in 2018.
Approximately three hours prior, at 11:16 PM on August 30, 2018, officers responded to Dorchester Park located at 1130 S. Nevada Avenue, on the report of a stabbing. Responding officers found 34 year victim Justin Thompson was stabbed by an unknown male. The investigation of this incident led to the arrest of Jimmy Lee Neill for First Degree Assault. Mr. Neill was taken into custody on September 1, 2018, and has been held at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center (CJC) since that time.
CSPD’s Violent Crime Section continued investigating the death of Mr. Lillie since the time it occurred. On March 6, 2019, an arrest warrant was obtained for Mr. Neill for the charge of Second Degree Murder. Mr. Neill was served with the arrest warrant at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on the same date. Mr. Neill is 28 years old and a resident of Colorado Springs.
