UPDATE to Homicide Investigation 400 W. Fillmore Street

Update Feb. 13, 2020

On February 13, 2020, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the adult male victim from the 400 block of West Fillmore Street.  The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Benjamin A. Nandin of Colorado Springs.  Mr. Nandin’s death is the sixth homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2020.  The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) had investigated two homicides at this time last year.

The CSPD is asking for the assistance from the public in regards to this homicide investigation.  Detectives are trying to identify a possible witness to the homicide that occurred at 424 West Fillmore Street, The BOMB Headshop at Blown Smoke Shop. The individual is a white male who was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. He was seen arriving in what appears to be an early 2000’s Ford Explorer or similar style SUV.  The vehicle is red with tan trim. The individual was at the business at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11th.  If you are the individual, or know who he may be, please contact the CSPD Communication Center at 444-7000.

Original Release

On February 11, 2020 at approximately 11:52 P.M. the Colorado Springs Police Department's (CSPD) Communication Center received a report of an unresponsive person located inside of a business located in the 400 block of W. Fillmore Street. CSPD officers along with medical personnel were dispatched to the location. Upon their arrival, they located a deceased adult male.

Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives from CSPD’s Violent Crimes Section responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. While the Coroner’s Office will make the official cause and manner of death determination, this death is being investigated as a homicide and continues to be an active investigation.
