UPDATE: Homicide Investigation 4200 Block of East Pikes Peak Avenue

UPDATE 3/24/20

On Saturday, March 21, 2020, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the deceased male that was located inside of a residence in the 4200 Block of East Pikes Peak Avenue on March 20, 2020. The male has been identified as 18-year-old Elijah Bojorquez of Colorado Springs.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) Homicide/Assault Unit detectives identified the suspect in this investigation as 18-year-old Micah Brutto of Colorado Springs. Detectives applied for and obtained an arrest warrant for Brutto for the charges of murder in the second degree and possession of a weapon by a previous offender. The Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force with the assistance of the CSPD’s K-9 Unit and patrol officers took Brutto into custody on Saturday, March 21, 2020. Brutto was booked into the El Paso County Jail, where he remains in custody.

Mr. Bojorquez’s death is the 15th homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2020. The Colorado Springs Police Department investigated three homicides at this time last year.

On Friday, March 20, 2020, at approximately 7:21 P.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department’s (CSPD) Communications Center received a report of a shooting that occurred in the 4200 Block of East Pikes Peak Avenue. CSPD officers responded and located one male deceased inside the residence. 

Based on the preliminary investigation by patrol officers, detectives from CSPD’s Violent Crimes Section responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. While the Coroner’s Office will make the official cause and manner of death determination, this death is being investigated as a homicide and continues to be an active investigation. Updates will be released in the future as appropriate.
