On March 12, 2019, at approximately 8:29 PM, officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to the 4600 block of Winewood Village Drive on a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male inside a residence with an apparent gunshot wound. The Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to the scene and confirmed the on-scene death.
The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Violent Crimes Section responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for this investigation. This death is being investigated as a homicide and continues to be an active investigation. One subject has been detained, and all individuals are accounted for. UPDATE: On March 13, 2019, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the victim from the shooting that occurred on March 12, 2019, in the 4600 block of Winewood Village Drive. The victim was identified as Nicholas Laduke, 37 years of age and a resident of Colorado Springs. Mr. Laduke died from the gunshot wound. As a result of the investigation, the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Homicide/Assault Unit detectives arrested Andrew Firkins, Jr. for First Degree Murder. Firkins was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on March 13, 2019. Firkins is 46 years of age and a resident of Colorado Springs. Follow twitter for photograph.
Mr. Laduke’s death is the third homicide in the City of Colorado Springs in 2019. The Colorado Springs Police Department investigated six homicides at this time last year.
