On Thursday, March 19, 2020, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the deceased male that was located inside of a residence in the 6900 Block of Winter Hawk Circle. The deceased male has been identified as 62-year-old James Gregory Anderson of Colorado Springs. Through the investigation, Homicide/Assault Unit detectives learned that Mr. Anderson’s wife, 54-year-old Amee Anderson, shot him several times. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Amee Anderson. She was arrested for the charge of Murder in the first degree and booked into the El Paso County Jail where she remains in custody.
Mr. Anderson’s death is the 13th homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2020. The Colorado Springs Police Department investigated three homicides at the time last year.
On Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at approximately 5:45 A.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department’s (CSPD) Communication Center received a report of a domestic disturbance that was occurring in the 6900 block of Winter Hawk Circle.
When officers arrived on scene, they located an adult female with a non-life-threatening injury and a deceased male inside of the residence. The adult female was transported to the hospital for treatment and the male was confirmed dead on scene by medical personnel.
Based on the preliminary investigation by patrol officers, detectives from CSPD’s Homicide/Assault Unit responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation.
All parties are accounted for and there is no immediate threat to the public. While this is still early in the investigation, it appears that this incident was a result of a domestic disturbance involving two individuals who were known to each other and resided in the same residence. While the Coroner’s Office will make the official cause and manner of death determination, this death is being investigated as a homicide and continues to be an active investigation.
Updates will be released in the future as appropriate. This is still an active and on-going investigation.
