Update (5/10/18; 1:37 p.m.)

On Friday, May 4th, 2018, at approximately 8:20AM, officers of the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a two-vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of Galley Road and Wooten Road.

Responding officers identified two occupants from the first vehicle and four occupants from the second vehicle. The driver of the first vehicle, an adult male, and his six-year-old female passenger were transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries.

Detectives from the Major Accident Unit responded to the collision. Their investigation
determined the first vehicle was traveling eastbound on Galley Road at the intersection with
Wooten Road when it ran the red traffic light and collided with the second vehicle, which was
turning left onto westbound Galley Road from northbound Wooten Road on a green traffic
signal. Specifically, the first vehicle collided with a small construction trailer that was attached
to the second vehicle.

Additional investigation determined the driver of the first vehicle was knowingly operating a
vehicle with a faulty braking system, and had the child passenger sitting unrestrained in the
front seat area.

The driver of the first vehicle was identified as 29-year-old Daniel Muniz of Colorado Springs.
On May 9th, 2018, Mr. Muniz was arrested for Child Abuse and Vehicular Assault, both of
which are felonies. The child passenger is still receiving treatment at an area hospital.

A photograph of Mr. Muniz accompanies this release.
