COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo — Work on the Academy Boulevard bridge over Cottonwood Creek is nearly finished, with roadway work scheduled for Monday and Tuesday night.
Monday, April 15, from 7 p.m. to midnight, crews will be applying the final striping, which will require short-term lane reductions as the work progresses. Travelers are advised to not cross the fresh paint until it is dry and traffic cones are removed.
Tuesday, April 16, from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., crews will be installing joint material at the ends of the new bridge, which requires Academy Boulevard to be reduced to one lane in each direction between Dublin Boulevard and Woodmen Road until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning. Travelers should expect delays and are strongly urged to find alternative routes.
The speed limit will remain 30 mph through the project zone and commuters may still encounter occasional lane closures on Academy Boulevard in each direction while crews perform finishing work.
Work on the Cottonwood Creek Trail extension will continue through April as crews finish the trail, staining of walls and safety railing. The trail will remain closed until the project is complete.
The project is replacing an aging, substandard bridge, bringing the structure up to modern safety standards, and will complete an important connection on the Cottonwood Creek Trail. All construction is weather and resource-dependent.
