The Woodmen Road Corridor Improvement Project extends along Woodmen Road from I-25 to US 24, a distance of approximately 11 miles. The purpose of this project is to develop a roadway improvement concept that meets the safety and capacity needs of the corridor.
The City of Colorado Springs and El Paso County worked together to develop a National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) Environmental Assessment (EA) for the project which was, a necessary first step to make use of the federal funds available to both the City and County for Woodmen Road.
The City portion of the project is from I-25 to Powers Blvd., approximately five miles.
The Phase 2 project began in the winter of 2012 and will widen and improve Woodmen Road from Stinson to Powers. The design plans are 95% complete. Right-of-way acquisitions will take place in 2014 and 2015. Construction will begin in late 2015.
