Work to repair a sinkhole that opened up in July at the Chapel Hills Mall is now complete. A city-owned stormwater pipe that runs under the mall was damaged after a large rain storm, causing the large sinkhole. Once crews began work, they determined the damage was far more extensive than originally thought and it would be safer and more cost-effective to replace a longer section of deteriorating pipe to prevent further damage. The Stormwater Enterprise was able to use emergency funding set aside to repair urgent stormwater issues as they arise
Stormwater Construction Manager John Adair gave us a closer look of the project as work was taking place.
