Detention Pond Nearing Completion

Content

Work is underway  just north of Woodmen Road between Rangewood Drive and Yellowwood Drive to build a full spectrum detention pond to help manage stormwater flows and maintain the quality of water returning back to our creeks. About 18,000 cubic yards, the equivalent of 6 Olympic-size swimming pools, was removed from the site and will be later used in a large stormwater project to stabilize the channel along Sand Creek near Platte Avenue.

This detention pond, which will be complete in January (weather dependent) is one of several that are being constructed around Colorado Springs to reduce stormwater flows and prevent sediment from going down Fountain Creek.
