Westside Community Center

We are excited to share with you the initial draft proposal for the formation of the Westside Community Center Working Committee.  A key request during the community engagement process was to create an advisory board to help inform the building usage as well as programs and services provided through the Center.  Creating a working committee that reports to the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Advisory Board, similar to the TOPS Working Committee, meets this request with an existing format and model, thus streamlining and expediting the working committee’s establishment.  The attached document includes how the committee will be formed, its roles and responsibilities, a timeline for applying to be a member, and the process for selecting those members.

This information will also be presented at the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Advisory Board meeting on September 8, 2022.  The meeting begins at 7:30 a.m. and is held at the Parks Headquarters located at 1401 Recreation Way.  The Advisory Board and the community will have an opportunity to provide feedback and recommendations through September 30, 2022.  These comments should be provided via email to Kim.King@coloradosprings.gov or sent to the Parks Headquarters at 1401 Recreation Way, Colorado Springs, CO  80905.  A revised document, based on the input received, will be presented to the Advisory Board at its October 13 meeting.

The Westside Community Center continues to be a resource for the thriving and active west side of Colorado Springs. The Center for Strategic Ministry, a supporting organization of Woodmen Valley Chapel, began operating the Westside Community Center in 2010. As of June 1, 2022, the City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department resumed operations for the Westside Community Center.

Starting in September of 2022, the Westside Community Center will begin operating as a public-private partnership. This new operational model integrates feedback from resident recommendations. It includes City staffing and operational funding while providing partnership and revenue-generating opportunities with external entities, including nonprofit organizations. Read more here.
