Construction Notice

Week of March 20th – there will be construction in the road directly in front of the cemetery entrance.  The northbound lane will be available, but there will be limited access southbound.  Those wishing to enter the cemetery from the north will have to pass the cemetery and make a U-turn on Hancock.

Beginning April 3rd, the intersection of Hancock and Fountain will be closed for cross traffic.  Eastbound traffic can turn right on Hancock and westbound traffic can turn left.  This construction is expected to last at least three weeks.

Evergreen and Fairview Cemeteries are Colorado Springs' oldest continuously-operated cemeteries. We invite you to visit, tour our facilities and learn about the services we provide. You are welcome to drive, bicycle, or take a leisurely stroll through either cemetery and enjoy the serenity that both have to offer.

Attention Evergreen and Fairview Families

The cemetery is planting grass on new graves and mowing and trimming the spaces.  Please note that we cannot plant grass, mow, or trim any spaces that have grave decorations that are not in approved cemetery vases or on the monument base.  All plastic flowers, fencing, solar lights, figurines, pinwheels, baskets, toys, glass or plastic vases, wind chimes, hooks, and any other items must be removed for grass to be planted, mowed and trimmed.  We ask that families do not place any prohibited items on grave spaces at any time.  All items will be removed by cemetery staff during the cemetery clean up in September.  Thank you for helping us keep our cemeteries safe and beautiful places to visit.

Evergreen Cemetery Fundraiser

Established shortly after Colorado Springs was founded in 1871, Evergreen Cemetery is one of Colorado Springs oldest continuously-operated cemeteries. The original ten acres has grown to over 220, with more than 90,000 burials. Many of the pioneers that built the city of Colorado Springs, including American prospector and philanthropist Winfield Scott Stratton, poet Helen Hunt Jackson, and even our city’s founder, General William Jackson Palmer are buried in Evergreen Cemetery. In 1993, this cemetery became only the second in the state to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Read more...

Evergreen Cemetery

Evergreen Cemetery was established shortly after the town was founded in 1871, and deeded to the City of Colorado Springs in 1875 by city founder, General William Jackson Palmer. As such, 220-acre Evergreen Cemetery enjoys a unique historical tie to the Colorado Springs community. In 1993, Evergreen was placed on the National Register of Historic Places, only the second cemetery in the state to receive such an honor.

As custodians of the cemeteries, the City of Colorado Springs embraces its responsibility to preserve the rich history contained at Evergreen and Fairview.

Most cemetery blocks are endowed, meaning the purchasers paid for perpetual care of these grave sites. Created in the early 1900's, the perpetual care fund encompasses the mowing, watering, and fertilizing of grave sites. Monument maintenance is the responsibility of the purchasers and their heirs.

The Cemetery Enterprise pre-sells grave spaces, niches, opening and closing fees, and select burial vaults for those desiring to lock in burial costs before need.

We also sell grave spaces and niches over time with a contract that requires $100 down payment per space, or niche, a 10% administration fee and quarterly payments ending in one year. No burials or interments may occur until a space or niche is paid in full. All pre-need services require space or niche ownership. All Cemetery fees must be paid before burials. The Cemetery Enterprise does not accept insurance consignments, promissory notes or other agreement instruments.
