Project
In tandem with 2C-funded repaving on Dublin Boulevard, the Public Works Department is conducting routine bridge maintenance work and implementing roadway improvements along the section of Dublin Boulevard between Lemonwood and Turret drives to address excessive speeds and crashes.
Bridge Maintenance
Routine bridge maintenance to include new asphalt, concrete repairs, and waterproofing will be performed in July-August 2020 at the following locations:
- Wicklow Circle West under westbound Dublin
- Lemonwood Drive
- Turret Drive
Roadway improvements
To address a history of crashes, primarily caused by vehicles hitting guardrails, raised medians are being installed at Lemonwood and Turret drives to further protect and redirect traffic to travel lanes.
Additionally, median openings at the above three intersections will be striped to guide vehicles through the intersection. Stop signs will be added to the medians openings to improve safety through the intersections.
Once bridge and median work is complete Dublin Boulevard will be repaved from North Academy Boulevard to Vincent Drive through the 2C repaving program. 2C work is scheduled to begin in mid-August 2020, weather and resource dependent.
Dublin Boulevard currently has one travel lane, but transitions to two travel lanes between Lemonwood and Turret drives. This section of Dublin Boulevard will be restriped to one westbound and one eastbound travel lane which will:
- Provide driving consistency through the corridor by extending the single travel lane west of Lemonwood Drive to Turret Drive.
- Enhance safety at intersections without impacting the level of service on the roadway
Current bicycle infrastructure will remain, however, to enhance safety for all roadway users. Excess roadway between Lemonwood and Turret drives will repurposed to create a wider buffer between the vehicle and bike lanes and between vehicles and culvert.
Closures/Delays
Access through Dublin Boulevard will be maintained, but temporary street closures will be part of the work.
Funding
Median and bridge work are funded by the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) Bridge Maintenance Funds.
Repaving and striping are funded by voter-approved ballot initiative 2C.
