Selection Process

Once the Colorado Springs Fire Department has determined there are vacancies to be filled, a timeline will be set for the selection process. Those notifications will be made through the NTN website and job announcements on this website. Once the job posting has been closed, a banded employment list is developed. The higher a candidate scores, the higher the band placement. Typically, the Department will only evaluate candidates in the A Band list. Candidates placing in the top band will be invited to complete the Colorado Springs Fire Department application and submit it with a resume.

Candidates that are selected to interview will be notified after they have completed the application process. After interviews, candidates may be subjected to the background process which includes a polygraph, a thorough background investigation, a medical examination and a drug screen, and psychological testing and interview.

The department will make final selections of the candidates who will be offered employment and selected for enrollment in the Colorado Springs Fire Department next Training Academy.
