Barnes Road between Antelope Ridge Drive and Marksheffel Road will remain closed for up to one additional week for major underground utility work.
Colorado Springs Utilities is replacing a natural gas line approximately twelve feet below ground. Unforeseen underground conditions have caused a delay in completing the work. Utility upgrades and relocations are necessary in advance of road construction associated with the Marksheffel Road Improvements project.
Travelers should plan for additional travel time and seek alternate routes.
Two detour routes remain in place that direct travelers to Peterson Road and either Stetson Hills Boulevard or North Carefree Circle to bypass the closed work area. Businesses on Barnes Road west of Marksheffel Road will be accessed from Antelope Ridge Drive.
This closure is weather-dependent, and the schedule may change. For the most up to date information on road closures and traffic pattern changes, text IMPROVE to 866-762-3640 to receive text alerts. Message boards on the corridor and the project hotline (719-645-4055) will reflect the latest schedule information.
