Starting on Tuesday, Dec. 16 the eastbound frontage road from 8th Street to US Highway 24 will close for two months. Crews plan to install new steel beams on the 8th Street Bridge over Fountain Creek.
Here’s what to expect:
- Eastbound frontage road closure: The road from 8th Street to US Highway 24 (going east) will close at 6 a.m. on Dec. 16 for concrete work. Drivers will be detoured to US Highway 24, one block north. This closure should last about two months.
- Westbound frontage road: The road from US Highway 24 to southbound 8th Street will stay open.
- Lane closure on 8th Street Bridge: On Wednesday, Dec. 17, the right northbound lane on the bridge will be closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. so crews can install three large steel beams. Each beam is 64 feet long and weighs 9 tons. The beams will arrive around 7:30 a.m., and installation will begin shortly after.
- Access to local businesses remains open and clearly visible.
The beam installation marks a significant milestone in the project, which adds an additional northbound lane across the bridge. It also replaces the Midland Trail bridge with an attached multi-use path on the bridge. This part of the project will continue through early 2026.
During this phase, the bridge will remain open in both directions, although occasional lane closures should be expected.
