RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING
APRIL 10-14, 2023 AS
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK
WHEREAS, the City of Colorado Springs is a participant in the Community Development Block Grant (“CDBG”) program, of which the main purpose is to provide decent, safe, and sanitary housing, a suitable living environment, and economic opportunities to low- and moderate-income people; and
WHEREAS, 2023 marks the 49th anniversary of the CDBG program, which was enacted into law as part of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974; and
WHEREAS, the City of Colorado Springs is also a participant in the HOME Investment Partnerships (“HOME”) program which provides funding to local communities to create decent, safe, and affordable housing opportunities for low-income persons; and
WHEREAS, the City of Colorado Springs is also a participant in the Emergency Solutions (“ESG”) program which assists individuals and families to quickly regain stability in permanent housing after experiencing a housing crisis or homelessness; and
WHEREAS, the City of Colorado Springs has allocated these funds to provide vital services and housing assistance to 43,000 low- and moderate-income residents during the last program year; and
WHEREAS, the City of Colorado Springs has allocated these funds to provide accessibility at bus stops to an estimated 6,670 residents and to free and no-cost health care at the new Peak Vista Clinic to an estimated 885 residents;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLORADO SPRINGS:
Section 1. April 10-14, 2023 is recognized as National Community Development Week and the City Council resolves that during this week the community will give special thanks and recognition to all participants whose hard work and devotion to their neighborhoods and their low- and
moderate-income residents help ensure the quality and effectiveness of the Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnerships program, and Emergency Solutions Grant program.
