The CSFD responded to several incidents on the night of July 31st into the early morning hours of August 1st. In addition to those incidents, CSFD received several calls for possible lightning strikes. We are grateful to our community for reporting those incidents. We would always rather have community members callus to investigate than wait until it is too late.

The following information is an update on all incidents.

July 31st:
Structure Fire - 12385 Mount Baldy Dr: Early report came in of smoke coming from the roof and attic of the home. CSFD was dispatched at 9:22 pm. The first company arrived at 9:30 pm. Crews found a small smoldering fire in the attic of the home. The fire was under control at 9:48 pm. Eight apparatus responded and a total of 38 CSFD personnel were on scene. The cause has been determined to be a lightning strike.
Swift Water Rescue - Fountain Creek off of 8th and Cimmaron: Reports came in of people in the river screaming for help. Crews were dispatched at 9:51 pm. The first crew arrived at 9:56 pm. Engine 3 noticed two patients in the middle of the creek on an island. With the assistance of Heavy Rescue, Engine 3 and Truck 4 were able to safely rescue the two patients. They were transported for cold water exposure injuries.

August 1st:
Structure Fire - 1128 W Colorado Ave: Call came into dispatch that a neighbor's home was on fire and people were on the roof. Crews were dispatched at 1:17 am. Battalion Chief 1 arrived at 1:21 am to smoke and fire showing from the 2nd floor of a multifamily4-plex with multiple community members needing to be rescued. A total of four people were rescued from the roof by Engine 3 and Truck 1. The fire was under control at 2:01 am. Two individuals were transported by ambulance, and a third was transported by private vehicle to the hospital for smoke-related injuries. Eight people were displaced. A total of 17 units responded and a total of 48 CSFD personnel were on scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
