The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) will conduct a community-wide vehicle registration enforcement surge from April 5, 2026, through April 11, 2026. Other participating agencies in focused registration enforcement that week will include the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol, Monument Police Department, Fountain Police Department, and the Palmer Lake Police Department.

This coordinated effort will focus on identifying and addressing expired and unregistered vehicles across roadways in Colorado Springs and throughout the Pikes Peak region.

During the enforcement period, CSPD officers will take a zero-tolerance approach to any registration violations. All motor vehicles, motorcycles, trailers, and other applicable vehicles must display assigned license plates in accordance with Colorado law. Additionally, vehicles stopped during the enforcement period that display fictitious license plates or have expired registration exceeding one year will be impounded and towed.

“This community-wide registration enforcement surge and collaborative effort with our partner agencies is a direct response to concerns we’ve heard from our community,” said CSPD Chief Adrian Vasquez. “Our goal is to reinforce compliance ahead of increased seasonal travel, encourage voluntary registration renewals, and improve public safety by reducing the number of uninsured and unregistered vehicles on our roads. We also want to raise awareness about the convenient options available for residents to stay current with their vehicle registration.”

CSPD encourages all community members to verify that their vehicle registration is current and properly displayed prior to the enforcement period. If your vehicle is not currently registered, or if your registration has expired and needs to be renewed, you can visit the Colorado Department of Revenue, Division of Motor Vehicles website for more information on how to register or renew your vehicle.
