On January 22, 2024, at approximately 12:12 PM, members of the Colorado Springs Police Department were dispatched to the 3300 block of South Academy Boulevard regarding a two-car traffic crash. When officers arrived on the scene it was determined that there was a northbound car that crossed into the southbound lanes hitting a second vehicle. Both drivers were transported to local hospitals for treatment of injuries. The driver of the vehicle traveling northbound succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Due to the nature of the crash, the Major Crash Team was contacted and responded to the scene to assume the investigation. Neither speed nor alcohol are considered factors in this investigation.
On January 23, 2024, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the deceased driver and identified him as 84-year-old Harold Hoover.
This is the 5th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there was one traffic fatality. In the last 365 days, there have been 54 traffic fatalities.
