On February 26, 2026, at approximately 10:15 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a call for service regarding a traffic crash in the 400 block of Crestone Lane. Preliminary information indicated that a vehicle traveling down a hillside between Crestone Lane and Motor World Parkway was involved in an incident in which the sole occupant was reportedly struck by his own vehicle. Initial details were unclear due to the nature of the scene and early reports.
The pedestrian/owner of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries. The Major Crash Team is assisting with this investigation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
On February 27, 2026, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the deceased individual and identified him as 67-year-old Michael Davis.
This is the 7th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were two traffic fatalities. In the last 365 days, there have been 58 traffic fatalities.
