An improvement project is currently underway at the Section 16 Trailhead at Red Rock Canyon Open Space on Gold Camp Road.
The Section 16 Trailhead is a popular destination for hikers, bikers, and nature enthusiasts. This project is designed to enhance pedestrian and visitor safety, improve the visitor experience, and promote connectivity in and around the trailhead.
"We are excited to begin this small but important improvement project at the Section 16 Trailhead," said David Deitemeyer, sr. landscape architect for Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services. "This work aims to enhance the trail experience and contributes to the overall vision of creating a more sustainable and enjoyable outdoor space for the community. These improvements will have a positive impact on Red Rock Canyon Open Space, Bear Creek Cañon Park and their visitors for years to come.”
Starting this week, park staff will conduct minor work in and around the parking lot. This will be followed by improvements to the Stephanie’s Trail at Gold Camp Road, which will connect to the upcoming trail enhancements in Bear Creek Cañon Park. In addition, a new pedestrian crosswalk with added signage will be installed on Gold Camp Road for improved safety.
The project also includes site preparation for new kiosks that will be installed later this spring. The initial work is expected to take place over the next 6 to 8 weeks, with limited access to the parking lot during active workdays. There may also be intermittent closures of some parking spots at the Section 16 Trailhead during this time.
