Mobolade to appoint former City of Colorado Springs Chief Communications Officer Jamie Fabos as Chief of Staff
May 31, 2023 - Today, Colorado Springs mayor-elect Yemi Mobolade released his “First 100 Days” blueprint, outlining his immediate priorities and actions he will begin implementing when he starts his term as the 42nd mayor of Colorado Springs on June 6, 2023. The blueprint provides three top priorities - building support with government officials, engaging the community and building public confidence, and addressing Colorado Springs’ emerging and most pressing issues - and outlines tangible and strategic steps Mobolade’s administration will take to address public safety, housing and infrastructure, economic vitality, and other issues. Mobolade will provide an update to the public at his State of the City address on Sept. 14. 2023, which will be his 100th day in office, on the progress of the blueprint.
Mobolade also announced today that he will appoint former City of Colorado Springs Chief Communications Officer Jamie Fabos as his Chief of Staff. Fabos will begin her role on June 6, 2023, the day Mobolade is officially sworn in as mayor. In her current position, Fabos oversees Colorado Springs Utilities’ public affairs efforts and interactions with the community. Prior to joining Utilities, Fabos served as the City’s Chief Communications Officer from 2015 to 2022. During her time at the City, Fabos led the City’s communications department, including public relations, marketing, branding and crisis communications efforts. She worked extensively on the city’s recognition as a U.S. News Best Place to Live and the ongoing effort to keep U.S. Space Command in Colorado Springs. Fabos also provided key leadership in guiding the City’s public communications efforts through significant crises, including the Planned Parenthood mass shooting and the COVID-19 pandemic. Further, Fabos also oversaw the City’s public engagement efforts, an initiative which will grow under Mobolade.
“I am thrilled to have Jamie’s leadership back at the City of Colorado Springs, where she has strong relationships, institutional knowledge, and deep experience,” said Mobolade. “Considering my commitment to a transparent and inclusive government, Jamie’s expertise in the areas of communications and public engagement, as well as leading teams, made her an excellent fit. In evaluating candidates for the role, I focused on competency and experience within government. I prioritized candidates who had the respect of other city leaders and who possessed strong leadership qualities. Further, I wanted someone of strong character who I trust implicitly. Jamie brings all of those things. I am very pleased she will partner with me and the rest of the city leadership to deliver on the promises I made to the residents of Colorado Springs.”
Prior to joining the City, Fabos enjoyed a 20-plus career in public relations which included leading teams in the Olympic and Paralympic movement with USA Swimming and USA Hockey. During her time with USA Swimming, she headed public relations and media for the 2008 Olympic Team that included Michael Phelps’ historic medal haul. A 17-year resident of Colorado Springs, Fabos lived previously in New York where she managed public relations for the National Hockey League’s New York Islanders.
“I love the city of Colorado Springs, and I am excited about the new direction and growth in front of us. I greatly enjoyed working with Mayor-elect Mobolade both at the city and throughout his campaign, and I know he will bring visionary leadership that will move this city forward. I have a great appreciation for the existing mayor’s cabinet, on which I served for seven years, and I look forward to leading that group of talented and dedicated professionals to not only continue the great work that has been done but to roll up our sleeves and identify new approaches that will bring this city into all of its potential.”
